On Tuesday May 3, a small team of FACS staff from the Illawarra Shoalhaven District together with their NGO colleagues boarded the 11.23 pm train from Central to Kiama to work with people sleeping rough on the train. On some nights, 20 or more homeless people catch this train to get some sleep on its two hour journey south. The train provides a space that is warmer, safer and more comfortable than most other options.
This is a great example of innovative thinking and how collaboration between agencies can improve outcomes for clients and the people most in need of assistance. The team had the opportunity to speak to everyone who was willing to talk, and are now following up with the people that they met.
